In 2003, class 5, Mrs Johnson, Mrs Bradley (Miss Edwards) and the whole school had the wonderful opportunity of working with

Children's Music Workshop  in The National Forest.

We learnt that through laughter, excitement, engagement and commitment, you can quite easily come up with the

words to and compose your own song.

All you need is stimulation, imagination and a theme.

From a basic idea/word, we 'thought showered' other ideas; produced a poem; started to chant;

developed a bit of a rhythm and then, before you new it - we had a tune.

Initially, the theme of Shakespeare's a Midsummer Nights Dream was shared with us - this to be the backbone of a performance at Conkers.

  Our second performance - the following year - was to be inside Calke Abbey.

    WOW! What a truly amazing experience as we told the story of the unusual and

       eccentric Harper Crewe family. We also sang opera. Yes! Can you believe it?

          A class of year 6 children, from an ex-mining community singing Italian Opera! Fantastic!
